Driving the Low-Carbon Transition with Green Fuels

About this session

Aviation, shipping, chemicals and parts of heavy industry cannot achieve deep decarbonisation through direct electrification alone. Green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and sustainable aviation fuels are therefore essential pathways towards net zero. Yet scaling them is no longer only a technology challenge. It is a system-coordination challenge involving feedstocks, standards, infrastructure, demand, cost and capital.

Structured around technology, standards, demand and incentives, this workshop compares major green-fuel pathways by maturity, emissions-reduction potential, cost and application. Participants from fuel production, aviation, shipping, industry, finance and standard-setting bodies will examine how credible certification and carbon accounting can establish a traceable green identity. They will also explore how long-term offtake agreements, green-premium sharing and policy support can create stable demand and make projects financeable, deliverable and scalable.

The workshop asks where the real bottleneck lies in moving green fuels from demonstration to deployment. How can producers, users, consumers and capital providers share transition costs and benefits? And how can widely supported technologies become markets capable of sustaining long-term investment, continuous innovation and large-scale adoption across hard-to-abate sectors?
