Sustaining the Shift: Stewards, Governance, and Coalition

Thu, 10 Sep 2026 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM SGT Lab 14

What kind of leaders and governance can hold the long horizon when short-term incentives pull the other way—and turn a week's proof into lasting coalitions?

About this session

Every preceding session produces something durable: a definition of value, a proof framework, a financing toolkit. None of it sustains itself. A measurement standard can be dropped, a fund can revert to extractive defaults, and commitments dissolve when political winds shift. What holds the architecture together over decades is not another instrument—it is people, and the governance protecting their judgment from the short term.

This session closes the stream by attending to both:

• The formation of stewards: Leaders who hold ecological and generational time, deciding from care rather than fear—work anchored by the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health.

• Long-horizon governance: The kind B Corp encodes by making companies legally accountable beyond shareholders, and WBCSD convenes by turning corporate commitments into shared norms.

Consciousness is upstream of capital; governance is upstream of how capital and carbon are held. The session converts stream outputs into commitments that outlast the week: pledges, partnerships, and a shared sustainability and well-being measurement standard carrying the WEGA work forward. Following the program arc—Convene → Align → Prototype → Coalition → Activate—a storyline ending in applause has failed; one ending in a coalition has begun.
