The ocean is not merely a sector. It is the largest life-support system on Earth. Yet much of today's blue economy remains fragmented, conservation separated from enterprise, finance disconnected from communities, and investment detached from long-term stewardship.
Family-controlled enterprises have been among the ocean economy's most significant actors, in fishing, aquaculture, coastal development, maritime logistics, and the supply chains that drive demand for marine resources. That proximity is not incidental. It means that family capital has shaped the ocean's trajectory, for better and for worse. What makes this workshop different from a conventional impact investing roundtable is that participants are not asked to fund solutions to someone else's problem. They are asked to take responsibility for their part of the system and to redesign it from within.
Family enterprises possess a unique capacity to bridge these divides through patient capital, operating expertise, local relationships, and intergenerational perspectives. This workshop invites family principals to move beyond project funding toward ecosystem building. Using real-world examples, marine protected areas, coastal livelihoods, regenerative aquaculture, blue infrastructure, and island restoration initiatives, participants explore how family capital can help architect integrated ocean systems where ecological restoration and economic prosperity reinforce one another.
