For a decade, the promise was that nature could be turned into an asset. The promise broke when carbon in a forest or a restored mangrove was certified and sold. Voluntary carbon markets carried credits for reductions that never happened and benefits that never reached local communities. The lesson is that a claim no one can verify is worth nothing, and without rigorous proof, capital stays away.
This session takes that lesson and does two things:
First, it builds the proof layer: the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) that lets a carbon or nature claim be trusted by investors, regulators, and communities. Carbon Trust joins as measurement partner, bringing the accounting discipline that separates a credible sink from a convenient story.
Second, on that foundation, it does the restoration work itself by rebuilding soil, blue, and urban carbon as living sinks, and restoring biodiversity, nature-based solutions, and the ridge-to-reef continuum as primary infrastructure.
This lab focuses on the carbon held in living systems, and the proof that it is real. The integrity question runs underneath throughout: nature is not a licence to keep emitting, and a sink that cannot be measured is not one an economy can bank on.
