The University Is Dying; What Should Replace It?

The traditional university is under existential pressure: from AI-driven knowledge access, credential inflation, the disconnect between academic knowledge and practical competence, the financial unsustainability of its cost structure, and a growing recognition that the kind of human formation it produces is misaligned with what this era requires. This lab situates that crisis within the larger context of a wellbeing economy. Education can no longer be confined to degrees; it must evolve into lifelong learning ecosystems that integrate intellectual development with systems thinking, ethical leadership, and personal awareness, grounded in the well-being of individuals, communities, and the ecosystems that support life. Is the traditional university worth saving or are we at the moment of inventing something genuinely new? If so, what would that new system of human development look like, and who would build it?
