Bringing Ecological Commitments into the Everyday Systems of the City

Thu, 10 Sep 2026 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM SGT Forum 2

When a city decides that ecological health should no longer be treated as the price of growth, which systems must it rebuild? And how should entrepreneurs, investors and urban operators participate in that process?

About this session

Urban ecological transition is ultimately experienced through everyday life: how people live, work, move, connect and experience the city. 知行合一—the unity of knowing and doing— reminds us that ecological commitments become meaningful only when they enter real spaces, infrastructure and daily operations. Bringing together perspectives from industrial technology, urban logistics, architecture and human-centred design, this session explores how buildings, workplaces, mobility networks, neighbourhoods and public spaces can evolve together rather than in isolation. The discussion will consider how intelligent technology can improve the adaptability and resource efficiency of urban and industrial environments; how logistics can support lower-impact and more inclusive movement; and how architecture and neighbourhood design can reconnect people with place, culture, nature and one another. Rather than treating ecological transition as a technical upgrade alone, the session asks what kind of urban life these systems should create—and how businesses, designers and operators can make ecological commitments visible, usable and tangible in residents’ daily experience.
