Biography

Daniel Lee Lih Wei is the Director of Research and Sustainability at Sunway University, where he drives the University’s research agenda, sustainability strategy, and impact-focused initiatives. He plays a key role in strengthening research culture, enhancing institutional research performance, and embedding sustainability across research, education, operations, and community engagement.

He also leads Sunway R&D Sdn Bhd, the University’s research and innovation arm, which focuses on translating academic expertise into practical and impactful solutions. Through his leadership and involvement with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Daniel actively advances industry–academia collaboration by creating platforms that connect university research capabilities with industry needs, innovation opportunities, and national development priorities.

With over 15 years of experience in higher education, Daniel has worked closely with government, industry, academia, and community stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes. He spearheads the Sunway Desa Mentari Community Development Programme, a flagship Private–Public–People Partnership initiative that applies research, education, and collaboration to uplift underserved communities. Daniel is a strong advocate for research that goes beyond publications to create real-world impact, institutional reputation, and a more sustainable and inclusive future. His work reflects a strong belief that universities can serve not only as centres of knowledge, but as platforms for transforming communities and creating greater value for society.
