Carlos Álvarez Pereira

Carlos is the Secretary General of The Club of Rome, where he promotes mutual learning towards equitable wellbeing on a healthy planet, across sectors, cultures, geographies and generations. Within The Fifth Element programme, he co-created The Earth-Humanity Coalition to serve the UN Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033.

An Aerospace Engineer, he has been a lecturer and researcher in systems dynamics at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), as well as an entrepreneur in the digital sector across Europe, and promoter of research on complex systems and responsible innovation. Carlos advises the SWEET program on energy transition in Switzerland and is a fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS).
