Futures Pod: Rehearsing the Futures We Are Creating

Fri, 11 Sep 2026 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM SGT Lab 11

Are we preparing for the future or unconsciously building the very future we say we want to avoid?

About this session

The future is often discussed as though it happens to us: a destination to predict or prepare for. But futures are not fixed; they are shaped by choices, systems preserved, and alternatives imagined. Climate disruption, demographic change, technological acceleration, shifting health patterns, and widening inequality interact in ways that make linear planning inadequate. The challenge is to think systemically, recognise uncertainty, and make better decisions before a crisis narrows choices.

The Futures Pod creates a space to step outside present assumptions and encounter possible future scenarios. Through futures tools, games, and facilitated dialogue, participants explore how different forces combine—and how today’s decisions reinforce, redirect, or transform those trajectories. Remaining deliberately systemic, participants will use VR sets provided by the Forum. Those from business, philanthropy, healthcare, government, civil society, and communities will consider how their decisions interact across sectors and time horizons. The session is not intended to produce a single forecast. It is designed to strengthen futures literacy: the ability to recognise uncertainty, question dominant assumptions, and use alternative futures to make more responsible decisions in the present.
