Biography

Mr. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has served as Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries since December 2020 and continues in this role in the current government. He is the only minister to lead the Ministry across two consecutive national administrations. Previously, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense from 2019 to 2020.

Born in Semarang, Central Java, Mr. Trenggono holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), a Master’s degree in Development Studies from ITB’s School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Earth Science and Technology at ITB.

Before entering public service, Mr. Trenggono built a successful career in the telecommunications and technology sector, founding and leading companies that played a major role in expanding national digital infrastructure. His work in this field earned him broad recognition in Indonesia for advancing connectivity and innovation. As Minister, Mr. Trenggono has been a leading proponent of Indonesia’s Blue Economy agenda, placing ecological sustainability at the center of marine and fisheries governance. His leadership focuses on marine conservation, sustainable fisheries management, coastal community welfare, and the integration of science, technology, and finance to support ocean stewardship.

In recognition of his national service, Mr. Trenggono was awarded the Bintang Mahaputera Utama, one of Indonesia’s highest civilian honors.
