David MacKenzie

Since joining the Angela Wright Bennett Foundation in 2019, David has developed and directed the Foundation’s extensive local and global portfolio of climate, nature and economic systems change programs to advance the Bennett family’s vision of a Flourishing World.

Prior to joining the family office, David led organisations and programs for 30 years in Australia’s nature conservation sector to successfully protect tens of millions of hectares of Australia’s wild places. This involved engaging policy and advocacy approaches across key conservation issues such as deforestation, marine protected areas, woodland restoration, coral reef protection and nature-based solutions for climate change. This work was primarily conducted with global NGO, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and leading Australian NGO, The Wilderness Society.

In addition to his work at the Foundation, he currently also serves as Director of the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation which works for a deforestation-free, Nature Positive Australia.

David believes the Bennett Family System is uniquely placed to make a globally significant contribution to tackling the polycrisis, and through this, creating a safer, healthier and more equitable world.
