Biography

Asma Khan is an award-winning restaurateur, best-selling author, and the founder of London’s famed Darjeeling Express restaurant. She holds a PhD in British Constitutional Law from King’s College London, is an honorary fellow at Queen's College, Oxford, and holds an honorary doctorate from SOAS University of London. Named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World, Asma is one of the culinary world's most prominent figures.

She is the first British chef to be profiled on Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Chef’s Table and the first chef ever named to British Vogue’s list of the 25 Most Influential Women. She appeared as a guest judge on the Emmy-winning Top Chef and has hosted her own headline series, Secrets of the Curry Kitchen, on Food Network UK.

Beyond the kitchen, Asma is a passionate Chef Advocate for the UN World Food Programme. Celebrated for her all-female kitchen team and her fierce commitment to social change, her humanitarian work has been recognised by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Personally invited to Buckingham Palace, she later hosted the Royal Highnesses at Darjeeling Express, where they visited to support her team's community initiatives ahead of Ramadan.

An accomplished and captivating speaker, Asma has delivered powerful keynotes at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine in Los Angeles, Stockholm’s Brilliant Minds, and The Business of Fashion’s annual VOICES summit. She has also been a featured guest on Trevor Noah’s What Now? podcast. From fronting high-profile campaigns for WhatsApp and Levi’s to establishing her restaurant as a favourite among cultural icons, she continues to redefine modern leadership.
