Anchor Capital: Families as First Movers

Fri, 11 Sep 2026 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM SGT MMR 2
About this session

There is roughly a thirty-trillion-dollar gap between what the world's goals require and what is being funded — not for lack of intention. Ninety-five percent of the wealthiest say this is their responsibility, ninety percent are serious about their philanthropy, yet eighty percent don't believe their giving is fully effective. The constraint is structural: impact investing remains small, bespoke and classified as alternative, forcing organisations serving the poorest communities to pay a risk premium of around twenty percent — the highest cost of capital demanded of those least able to bear it. Meanwhile, over $140 trillion in fixed income, priced at two to eight percent, delivers almost no additionality. Two pools of capital, each missing what the other has.

This session explores combining them: philanthropic and family capital entering as an enabling layer that buys down the cost of capital for the enterprise, while capital protection satisfies the fiduciary duty a wealth manager owes clients — creating an instrument with downside protection, affordable capital, and verified outcomes. An anchor commitment unlocks the first issuance, seeding a portfolio that a global wealth platform can then distribute at scale, repeatable across themes from energy access to maternal health.

The track record exists. This room explores who is willing to go first.

Note: This is a private, invite-only session.
